Thread compounds or anti-seize compounds are pastes used when assembling plants and machinery to ensure fuss-free disassembly of the components. The choice of which paste to use is usually dependant on the service temperature the paste is exposed to and also the metalurgical make-up of the threaded component. What all anti-seizes are expected to do is to prevent the locking of opposing thread faces through the effects of tribo-corrosion which relates to both the mechanical and chemical strains placed on threaded components whilst in service. Without anti-seizes a plant owner will experience costly maintenance downtimes and irregularly high component replacement costs as a result of fastener failure and breakage.
